No Maori Science

I was reading Jenny Bol Jun Lee book Jade Taniwha and on page 15 is a remarkable comment -she refused to go to class because her school curriculum didn’t have Taha Maori the headmasters response was

“it was not possible to include Maori into areas such as Science, because no Maori science existed”

I thought about this very narrowminded comment from someone who claimed to be an educator and it came to me the very fact we are here and how we came to Aotearoa,  Astrology is a science then I realised that Polynesian/Maori had been using celestial navigation and astronomy before the first public school in England ever opened in fact even before London was founded of course astronomy is used by organisations like Nasa, RNZN. I suggest before people make a sweeping comment about Maori history know your facts.

I highly suggest reading Jade Taniwha it is the story of a young Maori/Chinese lady who gets dual discrimination for being Maori and Chinese and her coping mechanisms.
