Imagine if Maori TV made a tacky TV show about Students in Dunedin that were non-maori making fools of themselves being humiliated. Maori television would be shut down in a heart beat it would loose its funding. Rick Ellis the CEO of TVNZ was in select committee asked what programmes he considered actually fulfilled TVNZ’s charter responsibility in terms of Maori perspectives, Mr Ellis reeled off a long list.

“If you look to mainstream programming that has a Maori presence … Dream Home, Shortland Street,Ten Years Younger, Intrepid Journeys, Location Location,Animal House, Game of Two Halves, Police Ten-7, CharmSchool, Lost Children … I could go on,

Police 10/7 -He said this to the New Zealand government and bells didnt ring , When the show the GC came on TV 13000 Anglo New Zealanders complained on behalf of maoridom that it didn’t portray Maori in a positive way yet none of them complained about Police 10/7 oh that’s different

This sort of disengenous caring is discriminatory we don’t want to to see successful wealthy young Maori but we are happy to see you being humiliated and arrested by a cop. The production crew at Police 10/7 doesn’t know where Dunedin, Invercargill or other large centers of population that is predominantly Non-Maori. If you type in “maori” into youtube search in the top 5 selections is a drunken Maori getting arrested by Police these stereotypes are damaging to young Maori seeking employment. Police 10/7 funding needs to be cut PERIOD.
